Akshay Pruthi, Product Associate, PayTm shares his experience in this brief interview.
1. Please tell us about your Interview procedure. at PayTm ( Short listing procedure, GDs, Interviews, Questions, etc).
I applied for PayTM off-campus. I had my pitch prepared which I sent to Mr. Vijay Shekhar, C.E.O Paytm. Two days after which I received a call from their H.R. My interview was conducted in the duration of two days. On the first day, I took a test on quantitative analysis and logical ability proceeded by two interviews. On the second day, I had to go through 3 more interviews, the last being the basic H.R. round.
2. What and how many internships and projects you did at college? How did you get them?
Across the four years of graduation, I have been working in the start-up domain. And nothing could have been better than working full time on a fast growing start-up. So my interview was all about my journey in entrepreneurship and learning from my start-up Lost Beat. One thing which I think got me through was that I was talking about ideas rather than the features which PayTM should work on. In the 3rd interview with the Product manager, we discussed about different ideas and scope of where PayTM can penetrate to and what kind of approach should one follow to get closer to the vision of PayTM- Cashless India.
3. What makes this company different from other firms?
4. How did you prepare for the placement season? What advice would you give to your juniors regarding the placement season?
Well frankly, I did nothing. I just sat for the company’s presentations, then decided if this is the company where I would love to work. And prepared to get the job accordingly.
5. What’s the role of academics in getting a good placement?
You just need good academic score so that you are eligible to sit for a particular company. So, on a safer side, I would recommend, anything above 65% is good. Different people have different thoughts on this but I would say, figure out what you exactly want and the source from where you can reach to that particular destination.
6. Elaborate on the type of work in this kind of role?
I worked on projects at KPMG, Bharti Airtel, IDiscoverI Education and Nestle India while at university, where I impressed the management with my sincerity and hard work. Airtel was my first internship where I had to do all the research about Obeya Infrastructures and get that implemented at the company. I cracked KPMG in my second year through an interview and worked on a live project of skill gap analysis in India. In 2014, I planned to do something in supply chain, so I did an internship with Nestle India.
7. What growth opportunities does this company provide? Is there any global exposure?
